Some people have asked for thoughts on the recent Covid-19 sermon by the Reverend Danny Jones of the Northlake Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA, that went viral. Here’s my take.

We urge the Governor to make sure that the state is prepared to handle the management challenges that will come with increased testing in the coming months.  We would like to see some innovative approaches to getting the job done.  We have some ideas.

We don’t know how many deaths there would have been without social distancing.  Experts said a lot.  But now there aren’t enough.  So to keep experts from looking bad, death with Covid-19 and other morbidities becomes death from (caused by) Covid-19.  See how well government ordered economic suicide works.  And how well surrender of fundamental freedoms and rights to worship and assemble works.  Who would have thought we would fall for the elephant repellant scam? 

The last couple of months have seen several new phrases enter the popular lexicon: “social distancing,” “flattening the curve” and “shelter in place” to name a few.  (Somewhere George Orwell is spinning in his grave.) Another phrase which is not new, but is newly popular, is herd immunity.

Sometimes there’s safety in numbers.  A Cape Buffalo in a herd is less likely to be eaten by lions than a straggler.  Sometimes there’s danger.  American Indians stampeded herds of Bison over cliffs and butchered the injured and dead.  We ordinary Americans seem more like Bison stampeded by experts than Cape Buffalos staring down hungry lions.

If you make bad bets, you can try to fix the game to keep from losing.  The President’s medical experts, Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx bet their credibility and the US economy on a lot of deaths from the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
